QURGHON TEPPA, April 29, Asia-Plus — The present mechanism of acceptance of raw cotton by cotton-ginning factories does not meet new methods of financing the cotton sector, Sadullo Beknazarov, the head of the Khatlon agriculture directorate, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.
According to him, if the cotton-ginning factories continue accepting raw cotton in old fashion, it will put cotton-growing farms at a disadvantage because “the cotton-ginning factories will grade the accepted cotton too low under various pretexts.”
“We want to suggest the government and the ministry of agriculture should set an average price for acceptance of cotton for all cotton-ginning factories,” said Beknazarov, “In our opinion, if cotton farmer sells, for example, one ton of raw cotton for $600, he will be able to cover all his expenses and get profit.”
“We hope the government will second our proposal; otherwise, if the mechanism of acceptance of cotton remains the same, it will scarcely yield any positive result,” the agriculture directorate head said, adding that the new mechanism yielded good result in the Vose district last year.
