KHUJAND, November 21, 2008, Asia-Plus  — An office of the Canadian Center for International Studies and Cooperation (CECI) in the Sughd province is satisfied with harvest of Turkish cotton varieties here.  

Speaking in an interview with Asia-Plus, Ms. Zumrad Normatova, deputy director of CECI’s office in Sughd, said that seeds of Turkish cotton varieties Flora and Carmen had been distributed free of charge to 50 dehqon (peasant) farms in Konibodom, Mastchoh, Spitamen, Zafarobod and Jabborrasulov districts.  Cotton farmers have also received mineral fertilizers free of charge, according to her.  

The Turkish cotton varieties have been planted on an area of totaling 300 hectares and cotton farmers have yielded good results.  “Some farming units in the Konibodom districts have reported cotton yields of 4.4 tons per hectare,” Normatova said. 

According to her, farmers have also reported good fiber yield.  “Thus, the cotton-ginning plant at Konibodom’s Farm named after Enajon Boymatova has reported the fiber yield of 41 percent, while an average fiber yield is 30 percent,” Normatova said.
