DUSHANBE, May 2, 2009, Asia-Plus  — 24 representative offices of foreign media currently operate in Tajikistan and some 100 journalists work for them, Davlat Nazriyev, the head of the MFA information department, remarked during a ceremony of an official opening of the correspondent office of Iran’s Fars News Agency (FNA) in Dushanbe on April 30.

According to him, three representative offices of Iran’s media now operate in the country.  “FNA’s office will be the fourth one,” said the MFA spokesman, “Opening of FNA’s correspondent office here is evidence of good relations between our countries.”   

The ceremony of opening of FNA’s correspondent office in Dushanbe was attended by FNA Managing Director Hamid Reza Muqaddam-Far, Iranian Ambassador to Tajikistan Ali-Asghar Sherdoust as well as representatives of the Tajik government, public associations and media.

The Dushanbe office, which is the first of a series of correspond offices to be opened by FNA’s regional office in Central Asia, Afghanistan, India and Pakistan, is expected to cover developments in Tajikistan and Central Asia as a whole.
