DUSHANBE, May 2, 2009, Asia-Plus  — The National Bank of Tajikistan has participated in the international coin competition of the countries of the CIS and the Baltic nations, Coin Constellation 2009.

The Tajik central bank has presented a silver 5-somoni coin last year issued on occasion of the 1150th anniversary of founder of Tajik-Persian classical literature Abu Abdullo Roudaki at the contest.  The NBT has issued 1,000 commemorative coins.

The coins for the contest can be presented by the national banks and mints.  Central banks and mints of some 70 countries of the world participated in the Coin Constellation 2009, the NBT press service said.

Only commemorative coins issued from 1 January till 31 December 2008 were accepted to participate in Coin Constellation-2009.  The winners of the contest are determined on the basis of the internet-voting.  The coin, which scores most points, gets the People’s Choice Award.

There were six categories in this year’s commemorative coin contest:  The Coin of the Year; The Gold Coin of the Year; The Silver Coin of the Year; The Unique Idea Solution; The Successful Artistic Solution; and the Original Technology.

The organizer of the contest is a company Watermark, the publisher of the magazines Gold Chervonets (the first specialized periodical on coins and medals in Russia) and Watermark (the only Russian magazine on security products).

Coin Constellation is the only commemorative coins contest which is held in Russia.  The first contest was held in 2007.
