DUSHANBE, July 13, 2009, Asia-Plus  — A three-day visit of German delegation led by Ms. Karin Kortmann, member of the German Bundestag and Parliamentary State Secretary at the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, to Tajikistan concluded on July 12.

According to the German Embassy in Dushanbe, the delegation members included representatives of Bundestag (Germany’s parliament), the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development, as well as German Ambassador to Tajikistan, Ms. Doris Hertrampf, and representatives of the German Agency for Technical Cooperation (GTZ) and German Development Bank (KfW).

During its stay in Tajikistan, the delegation held talks with a number of high-ranking Tajik state officials, including Minister of Economic Development and Trade Ghulomjon Bobozoda and Deputy Speaker of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) Ubaidullo Davlatov.

Bilateral cooperation between Germany and Tajikistan and current economic situation in Tajikistan were among major topics of the meeting with Bobozoda.  The sides also raised the issue regarding possible contribution of Germany to promoting socioeconomic development of Tajikistan.

Bobozoda informed the meeting participants of the current macroeconomic situation in the country and favorable conditions created for running business in Tajikistan.

For her part, Ms. Kortmann noted that Tajikistan was one of main partners of Germany in the Central Asian region and briefed Tajik minister on features of Germany’s economy as well as toughed upon issues related to social sphere.

The sides also exchanged views on measures taken by the governments of the two countries to mitigate effects of the global financial crisis.

During the meeting with Ubaidullo Davlatov, members of the German delegation raised the issues of gender equality in Tajikistan as well as the situation that had emerged in Tajikistan’s energy sector and social aspects.

The German delegation also attended an opening ceremony of school building in Khatlon’s Rumi district, which had been constructed with financial support from GTZ, and visited the regional hospital in Qurghon Teppa, the capital of Khatlon province.
