QURGHON TEPPA, August 11, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Chairman of Khatlon Province Ghaybullo Avzalov held a meeting with local athletes in Qurghon Teppa yesterday.

During the meeting, the Khatlon governor wished them successes, noting that Tajik athletes had all necessary opportunities to show good results in international tournaments.  Avzalov promised to increase the number of sports schools in the province.

30 sports schools and one school of high sports skills currently function in the province.  Since the beginning of this year, athletes from Khatlon have participated in nine international and 19 republican competitions.  In all, they have won 61 gold, 56 silver and 95 bronze medals over the report period.
