DUSHANBE, September 22, 2009, Asia-Plus  — Two persons were killed and at least one other was injured in two traffic accidents that took place in northern Tajikistan yesterday, according to the Ministry of Interior (MoI).

A moped driver was killed Monday as Mercedes-Benz hit the moped in the city of Khujand, the capital of the Sughd province.

Another fatal accident took place yesterday in Sughd’s Istaravshan district.  “Mercedes-Benz hit the pole,” said the source, “The driver was killed and his passenger received various injuries and was taken to the central districts hospital in Istaravshan.”

In all, 11 traffic accidents were registered in Tajikistan yesterday, the source said.

More than 1,200 traffic accidents have been registered in Tajikistan since the beginning of this year.  509 people have been killed in those accidents.
