KHUJAND, October 17, 2009, Asia-Plus — The Third International Human Rights Documentary Festival started at the Faculty of Art of Khujand State University on October 16.
Organized by the Human Rights Center “Citizens against Corruption” and Bir Duyne (Common World), both Kyrgyz organizations, under financial support of the European Union and international organization Hivos International, the festival seeks to promote to promote the ideals of open society, democracy, rule-of-law, tolerance, political and cultural pluralism.
The festival coordinator, Ms. Diana Mekembayeva, told Asia-Plus on October 16 that festival will last in Khujand for three days.
Twenty documentaries on rights of children, women, sexual minorities as well as environmental protection problems, made by representatives of Great Britain, Kazakhstan, the United States, Mongolia, India, Russia, Germany, China, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan, are being screened in Khujand.
According to Mekembayeva, the festival was launched in Bishkek on September 22 and then continued in Naryn, Osh, Isfara and now it came to Khujand.
