DUSHANBE, October 20, 2009, Asia-Plus – Ms. Narzigul Vohidova, Deputy Chairperson of Khatlon’s Jomi District, faces charge of corruption.

The source at one of law enforcement agencies of the country says Ms. Vohidova is suspected of taking bribe from a person wanting to perform the Hajj this year.  She has allegedly demanded 1,200 U.S. dollars from him in excess of the fixed amount.

Ms. Narzigul Vohidova, who is member of the Jomi district legislature (Majlis), was detained on suspicion of having been involved in bribery and the bribery charge has been officially brought against her.  They are currently considering the question of the repeal of inviolability of Ms. Vohidova, the source said.

A source at the Jomi district has confirmed the fact of detention of Narzigul Vohidova.

We will recall that according to findings by the anticorruption agency, corruption has cost Tajikistan at some 56 million somoni over the first nine months of this year.  Overall, 666 officials and managers have been implicated in wrongdoing, and disciplinary and administrative actions have been imposed upon them; 28 of them have been sacked.  Over the re report period, the anticorruption agency has detected 677 corruption-related crimes.  Of these crimes, 115 related to bribery and 105 of these bribery-related crimes have been committed by officials.  Criminal proceedings have been instituted against more than 122 employees of the public management system, law enforcement agencies and power-wielding structures, counternarcotics agency.
