DUSHANBE, October 20, Asia-Plus — An official ceremony of signing of a project document on providing technical assistance to the textile and clothing industries in Tajikistan will be signed in Dushanbe on October 22.

The project will be implemented by International Trade Center (ITC) in cooperation with Tajikistan’s Ministry of Economic Development and Trade and Ministry of Energy and Industries under financial support of the Swiss Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO).

Abdulfattoh Shafiyev, national consultant for public relations, the ITC Project “Trade Promotion in Tajikistan,” told Asia-Plus today that the main objective of the project is in supporting sustainable expansion and diversification of exports for small and medium-sized enterprises in Tajikistan through raising competitiveness of the textile and clothing industries and improving goods quality management infrastructure in the country.

The same day, the first meeting of the project supervisory board will be held, Shafiyev added.  The meeting will bring together representatives from relevant ministries, private sector, as well as SECO and ITC.  The supervisory board has been set up to support the project work and transparency of it implementation.

International Trade Center (ITC) is the joint agency of the World Trade Organization and the United Nations.  As the development partner for small business export success, ITC’s goal is to help developing and transition countries achieve sustainable human development through exports.

ITC partners with trade support institutions to deliver integrated solutions for “Export Impact for Good”.  Its services are delivered through five complementary business services: business and trade policy, export strategy, strengthening trade support institutions, trade intelligence and exporter competitiveness.

Through strategic development and capacity building based on these business services, ITC connects opportunities to markets. As a result, we achieve long-term, tangible benefits at both national and community levels.
