DUSHANBE, March 2, 2010, Asia-Plus  — The Communist Party (CPT) will convene a special plenum in late March to discuss the results of the February 23 elections to parliament and local legislatures, CPT leader Shodi Shabdolov said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

“We are currently collecting documents about falsification of the election results and then we will make decision what to do under this situation,” said Shabdolov.  “The CPT candidates won elections in many polling stations, however, votes cast for our candidates were assigned to other political parties, mainly the People’s Democratic Party.”

Parliamentary elections that took place in the country this year are a parody of election, CPT leader noted.  “Anyway, winning seats in parliament, we got access to tribune and we will try to use it maximally in order to protect interests of the country’s working people,” Shabdolov said.

According to the preliminary election results announced by the Central Commission for Election and Referenda (CCER), two CPT candidates were elected to the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) through the party list and one other won an absolute majority of votes in the Khujand single-mandate constituency.  Thus according to the preliminary results, CPT has won three seats in parliament so far.

We will recall that the CCER has promised to announce the final election results by March 10.
