KHUJAND, March 5, 2010, Asia-Plus  — Voting for elections to the Sughd regional legislature will be re-run in three constituencies, Naim Malikislomov, head of the Sughd regional electoral commission, said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

“Repeated voting will be held in constituencies # 9 in Isfara and # 17 in Konibodom on March 14,” said Malikislomov, “And a second round of voting between Mr. Nasrullo Fayzulloyev, candidate of the Islamic Revival Party (IRPT), and Ms. Matlouba Mukhtorova, candidate of the People’s Democratic Party (PDPT), will take place in constituency # 31 in Istaravshan on April 25 because none of contenders managed to win an absolute majority during the first round.”

In all, 132 candidates competed for 70 seats in the Sughd regional legislature.  To-date, the ruling PDPT has got 62 seats, the Communist Party (CPT) – 2 seats, the Agrarian Party (APT) – one seat, and two seats have been won by unaffiliated persons, while voting will be re-run in three abovementioned constituencies.
