KULOB, April 16, 2010, Asia-Plus  — The 86-year-old veteran of the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945 from the city of Kulob, Fayzullo Saidov, will celebrate the 65 th anniversary of victory in World War II in St. Petersburg, Russian Federation.

Asadullo Qurbonov, the head of the Kulob Council of War Veterans says Fayzullo Saidov has received a special invitation to attend the Victory Day events in St. Petersburg because he along with other Soviet soldiers defended Leningrad during World War II.

In all, eight war veterans  from Tajikistan have been invited to attend the Victory Day events in St. Petersburg, Qurbonov said.

Victory Day marks the surrender of Nazi Germany on May 9, 1945.  Western countries call it V-E Day and celebrate it on May 8 because the surrender was signed near midnight in Germany, when it was already May 9 in Moscow.
