KHUJAND, April 19, 2010, Asia-Plus — Mr. Atabek Nazirov, representative from the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development Resident (EBRD) Office in Istanbul visited the Sughd Free Economic Zone (FEZ) last weekends, the FEZ Sughd administration head Anvar Yoqubov said in an interview with Asia-Plus.

According to him, the EBRD representative also visited joint-stock companies Dusti Amirkhan, Sirandud, Khujandsoz as well as the limited liability company Real.  “Mr. Nazirov familiarized himself with the investment projects that are of high priority for enterprises and companies located within the free economic zone,” Yoqubov said.

In the course of the talks, the EBRD representative informed the FEZ Sughd administration head of mechanism of participation of the Bank in the investment projects as well as priorities and mechanism of implementation of the projects.

The Government of Tajikistan passed a law on Free Economic Zones in 2004, establishing zones in Sughd and Panj.  These zones create favorable conditions that stimulate investment opportunities in Tajikistan, creating more jobs, boosting local production, and increasing the country’s export potential.
