DUSHANBE, April 21, 2010, Asia-Plus  — On Tuesday April 20, President Emomali Rahmon accepted credentials from eleven newly appointed ambassadors of foreign countries to Tajikistan.

According to presidential press service, President Rahmon yesterday accepted credentials from newly appointed ambassadors of the European Union (Edward Auer), Spain (Alberto Antón Cortés), Serbia (Yelitsa Kuryak), the United Arab Emirates (Ibrahim Hassan Saif), the Netherlands (Potayt Franz Jacob), Norway (Dag Malmer Halvorsen), the Philippines (Yakus Ines Yabeks), Morocco (Hassan Hami), Indonesia (Mohammad Asruchin), Korea (Chung Dai-Wan) and Qatar (Sayar Ibn Abdrrahman Al Mavdah) to Tajikistan.

President Rahmon paid attention to prospects of expansion of cooperation between Tajikistan and the European Union and its member nations.  The president noted that cooperation between Tajikistan and the European Union currently did not correspondent to its real potential.  The European Union ought to make shift from providing humanitarian aid to Tajikistan to developing trade and economic cooperation.

The Tajik head of state expressed satisfaction with the level of cooperation with Spain, the Netherlands and Norway, in which priority is given to the fight against terrorism and extremism and strengthening of regional security.

He also highly appraised cooperation with the United Arab Emirates, Qatar, Korea and Indonesia and expressed confidence that Tajikistan’s cooperation with the Philippines and Morocco would expand in the near future.

At the end of the meeting, President Rahmon expressed hope that the newly appointed ambassadors would promote expansion and strengthening of friendly relations and bilateral mutually beneficial ties, presidential press service said.
