KHOROG.KHUJAND, April 22, 2010, Asia-Plus  –Members of the organization of the Communist Part of Tajikistan (CPT) in Gorno Badakhshan marked Lenin’s 140th birthday today.

Today morning, local Communists laid flowers at the Lenin’s statue in Khorog, the capital of Gorno Badakhshan.

Khusrav Raqamov, the head of the CPT organization for Gorno Badakhshan, said they had laid flowers at Lenin’s monuments in all districts of the region, except Vanj where the monument to Lenin had been demolished during civil confrontation in the 1990s.

In the meantime, the statue of Lenin was dismantled in the Ayni district, Sughd province last week.  Ghufronjon Rustamov, the head of the CPT organization for Sughd, says, “The statue was dismantled at night and nobody knows where it was taken.”

According to him, the main events to mark Lenin’s 140th birthday were organized at the Lenin’s monument in Khujand.  Party cards were handed over to new members of the party.

“The CPT organization for Sughd now has some 20,000 members, with 48 percent of them being young people,” Rustamov said, adding that 500 local residents joined the party last year.
