KHUJAND, April 26, 2010, Asia-Plus — Two residents of Sughd’s Isfara district, who are suspected of having been involved in the Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU), have been detained in the Russian Federation since the beginning of this year, the Sughd police directorate chief Rauf Yusupov said in an interview with Asia-Plus.
According to him, they are currently taking measures to extradite them to Tajikistan.
Yusupov added that over the first three months of this year, four residents of Sughd have been detained in the province itself on suspicion having been involved in IMU and criminal proceedings have been instituted against them.
The Sughd police chief also noted that 61 residents of Sughd have been listed as followers of Salafism over the same three-month period.
