DUSHANBE. 24 May. Asia-Plus — Even though gasoline prices at Dushanbe gas stations have slowly dropped down in recent days, they raised today, May 24, up to last Friday’s level making 4 Somoni per liter.
On Friday gasoline prices rose by 20% from 3,40 Somoni up to 4 Somoni.
All gas stations visited by AP reporters sell AI-95 gasoline only at 4 Somoni per liter while on May 20 one liter of AI-95 gasoline was sold at 3,40 Somoni.
Meanwhile, the State Antimonopoly Service under the government of Tajikistan told the AP that members of the special working group have warned all operating gas stations in Dushanbe not to raise gasoline prices.
According to Head of the Department of Information, Recordation and International Relations Elena Rahimova, the move allowed to reduce gasoline prices. “We are not able to comment on new growth in gasoline prices since we are not aware of such facts,” she said.
She noted that wholesale fuel suppliers have enough reserves and should not use the existing situation to rise fuel prices. “Otherwise, any raise in gasoline prices will be considered illegal and responsible owners of gas stations will be brought to account,” she added.
