DUSHANBE. 24 May. Asia-Plus — Situation with poliomyelitis in Tajikistan is stabilizing, Chief Sanitary Physician of the Republic, Deputy Health Minister Azam Mirzoev told the AP.
According to him, in the past 2-3 days only one patient potentially infected with poliomyelitis addressed related medical institution. His condition has already improved and this makes us believe that he will be excluded from the list of potential “suspects”.
“Since the very first day of the outburst of poliomyelitis medical institutions used to admit 20 or even more patients a day,” Mirzoev has said.
According to Chief Sanitary official, a total of 129 people infected with poliomyelitis were registered in Tajikistan for today. A total of 470 people potentially infected with polio were delivered to medical institutions.
Mirzoev reported that on May 27 Tajikistan will receive a new delivery of polio vaccine purchased with WHO and UNICEF support. Vaccination of children at the age from 6 to 15 will start on June 1. According to Mirzoev, Tajik Health Ministry also urged HOPE Project and the Embassy of India to allocate additional funds for the purchase of additional vaccines for children and all age categories.
