DUSHANBE. May 31. “Asia-Plus” — Tajikistan will discharge its debt owed to Russia for exploitation of Sangtuda-1 hydropower station till the end of 2010, head of the Tajik power company Barki Tojik, which is responsible for exploitation of the hydropower facility, Abdullo Erov spoke at a press conference held on the results of the 37th session of the Energy Council of CIS member states on Friday, May 28.

In November 2009 Sangtuda-1 hydropower station, which is controlled by the Russian government, warned Dushanbe about possible suspension of activity due to energy users’ debts, RIA Novosti reports.

“As of January 1, 2010, this debt made nearly 124mln Somoni (nearly $30mln). The situation has changed and we are repaying debts,” Erov said adding that according to the signed schedule the debt will be repaid by the end of this year.
