DUSHANBE, June 30, 2010, Asia-Plus — Over the first three and half months of its activity, the newly elected Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) has adopted more than 50 laws.
The Majlisi Namoyandagon speaker Shukurjon Zuhurov remarked this on June 30, while opening the first session of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the fourth convocation.
In his speech, the speaker also dwelled on shortcomings that impede fruitful work of MPs. He, in particular, noted that the frequently introduced nonessential amendments did no credit to parliamentarians.
“We almost do not pay attention and have not yet organized a proper control over implementation of laws we adopt,” said Zuhurov, “Thus, we do not pay attention to control over the process of implementation of the national budget, while we have the right to do this.”
He also noted that over the past three months, the lower house of parliament has received some 600 applications and complaints from citizens.
