DUSHANBE, July 2, 2010, Asia-Plus — The first edition of a new literary magazine entitled
Sharqu Gharb
(East and West) has been brought out in Tajikistan.
The magazine is published by the Academy of Arts of Tajikistan and its editor-in-chief is Abdughaffor Abdujabborov.
“The main objective of our publication is to acquaint Tajik reader with the best works by local and foreign authors,” Abdujabborov said, noting that the magazine will publish short stories, poetry and essays along with literary criticism, book reviews, interviews and letters.
The first edition publishes works of Tajik poets and writers of the Soviet and post-Soviet period as well as plays and stories by Kyrgyz (Mar Baijiyev), Russian (Nikolai Loginov), Kazakh (Roza Mukanova) and Armenian (Ovanes Shiraz) writers translated into Tajik. The third chapter of
Sharqu Gharb
entitled “Stories by Writers of the World” contains work by internationally known writers such as Ray Bradbury (the United States), Heinrich Böll (Germany), Alan Marshall (Australia), Jalal Ahmad (Iran) and Ba Jin (China).
