DUSHANBE, July 14, 2010, Asia-Plus  — The National Center for Earth Studies, Geomatics and Information Technologies has opened in Dushanbe, the Main Geology Directorate head Azim Ibrohim announced at a news conference in Dushanbe on July 13.

We will recall that an agreement on the establishment of this center was signed in Dushanbe last January during Iranian president’s visit to Tajikistan.  Tajik Main Geology Directorate and Iranian Ministry of Industry and Mines singed the document.

Speaking to reporters, Tajik chief geologist noted that 1.5 million U.S. dollars had been invested in the construction of the center and the provision of it with necessary equipment.  “Iranian partners are expected to provide additional funds and Tajik specialists are currently taking training course in Iran,” said Ibrohim, “In case of necessity, Iranian specialists will arrive in Tajikistan themselves.”

According to him, the center is creating informational database on Tajikistan’s geology.  “Besides, work on creating digital topographic maps is under way and the center specialists will also create the 1:120,000 digital geological map of Tajikistan,” said Ibrohim, “The center is expected to unite all the geological expeditions in Tajikistan.”
