KHUJAND, September 18, 2010, Asia-Plus — On September  12, officers from the State Committee For National Security’s (GKNB) branch in Sughd province detained three persons who are suspected of having been involved in an attack on the Sughd regional body empowered to combat organized crime that took place in Khujand on September 3.

The press service of the GKNB’s office in Sughd says the investigation is under way and the names of detainees are not disclosed in the interest of investigation.

We will recall that according to the statement released by the Ministry of Interior, two police officers were killed and 25 others were injured as suicide bomber drove a vehicle packed with explosives into the office of the Sughd regional anti organized crime division at around 8:00 am of September 3.  The suicide bomber reportedly drove the explosive packed car with high speed into the gated compound of the division – as the gate was closing after two police cars entered the complex – and the car exploded.

The blast destroyed parts of the building of the Sughd anti organized crime division and shattered windows in surrounding buildings.
