KULOB, October 5, 2010, Asia-Plus — Five cotton producing districts in the Kulob zone of Khatlon province have yielded 36,531 tons of raw cotton by October 5, which is 71.06 percent of their target that has been determined at 51,238 tons of cotton, Abdullo Rajabov, a lead specialist with the Kulob agriculture department, sad.
According to him, Hamadoni district has reached 81.39 percent of its cotton target by October 5, Danghara district – 75.79 percent, and Farkhor district – 73.16 percent.
Local cotton producing farms now pay 40.00 diram per one kilogram of cotton to cotton pickers and up to 40,000 people that are now involved in the cotton-harvesting campaign in the area intend to fulfill their cotton target by October 15, Rajabov said.
