DUSHANBE, October 6, 2010, Asia-Plus — An international conference on border management and trade between Tajikistan and Afghanistan will take place in Dushanbe tomorrow.

Organized by the Delegation of the European Union in Tajikistan, the Japanese Embassy in Dushanbe, the Japan Agency for International Cooperation (JICA), and BOMCA/CADAP Office in Tajikistan, the conference is expected to bring together senior representatives from relevant ministries and departments of Tajikistan and Afghanistan as well as diplomatic missions and international organizations active in Tajikistan.

According to data from the Agency for Statistics under the President of Tajikistan a two-way trade between Tajikistan and Afghanistan in January-August 2010 has valued at US$60.004 million, which is 21.6 percent more than in the same period last year.  This consisted of Tajikistan’s exports to Afghanistan estimated at little more than US$30.8 million and Tajikistan’s imports from Afghanistan worth more than US$29.1 million.
