DUSHANBE, October 11, 2010, Asia-Plus — More than 55 kilograms of narcotics were seized at the traffic police checkpoint in Jabborrasoulov district, Sughd province yesterday, according to the Ministry of Interior (MoI).
When searching Opel-Vectra belonging to the 32-year-old F.S., the traffic police officers found a sack of narcotic drug that was tested positive to hashish weighing 55.45 kilograms, the source at a MoI said.
According to him, the preliminary investigation has established that the seized hashish belonged to two passengers, H.Z. and U.H.
The same day, the third-year student at Tajik Technological University, M.G., was detained on suspicion of having been involved in drug pushing. 710 grams of hashish were confiscated from him.
Over the first eight months of this year, Tajik police have seized nearly 1,500 kilograms of narcotics, which is 62 percent of the overall amount of narcotics sized in the country over the report period. A totaled included 370 kilograms of heroin, 243 kilograms of raw opium and nearly 890 kilograms of cannabis.
In all, 2,397 kilograms of narcotics have been seized by all law enforcement agencies of the country in January-August this year.
