Tajik, Indonesian MPs discuss inter-parliamentary cooperation

DUSHANBE, October 12, 2010, Asia-Plus  — On Monday October 11, Shukurjon Zuhurov, Chairman of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament), met here with a delegation of Indonesian Parliament, led by Mohamed Rasiyd Hidayat, according to the Majlisi Namoyandagon press service.

Tajik speaker briefed Indonesian MPs on activities of the lower house of Tajik parliament.  He noted that Tajikistan was ready for close cooperation with all countries and attached significance to expansion of economic cooperation with Indonesia.

Zuhurov also called for expansion of inter-parliamentary cooperation between the two countries.  “Time has come to establish parliamentary friendship groups that will promote expansion of inter-parliamentary cooperation between out countries,” Tajik speaker said.

Mr. Mohamed Rasiyd Hidayat, for his part, seconded Zuhurov’s proposal to establish the parliamentary friendship groups and noted that Indonesia and Tajikistan had great potential for mutually beneficial cooperation in many fields.

The Indonesian parliamentary arrived in Tajikistan on October 11 and it will stay here until October 14.

We will recall that Tajikistan and Indonesia established diplomatic relations on August 27, 1997 and since that time, they have singed a number of cooperation agreement.
