DUSHANBE, October 19, 2010, Asia-Plus  — 48,000 nationals of Tajikistan, or 2.2 percent of the economically active population of the country, have jobless status, Minster of Labor and Social Protection Mahmadamin Mahmadaminov told reporters in Dushanbe on October 18.

According to him, a total number of the economically active population of Tajikistan is more than 2 million.

“Over the first nine months of this year, nearly 110,000 new jobs have been created in Tajikistan,” said the minister.  “Over the report period, 1,080 people have been placed in jobs in accordance with approved quotas and 1,510 others have been provided with jobs through organization of individual labor activities.”

Besides, 4,500 people have been sent to the paid public works and 8,000 other people have been sent to take vocational training courses over the same nine-month period, Mahmadaminov noted.

In January-September 2001, approximately 74,500 people have applied to the country’s employment center for jobs and allowances for the period from three to six months have been granted to 1,721 persons in connection with loss of job, the minister added
