KABUL, October 26, 2010, Asia-Plus  — There are no any problems in bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Afghanistan in the field of security, Tajik President Emomali Rahmon told reporters in Kabul on October 25 following discussions with Afghan authorities.

Rahmon stressed that nationals of the former Soviet Union and first of all Tajikistan itself have been involved in the latest developments in the Rasht region.

“Reports released by some media that a large of the Taliban and Al-Qaeda militants allegedly spilled over into Tajikistan do not correspondent to the facts,” Emomali Rahmon stressed.

Tajik president noted that unstable situation in Afghanistan could affect the whole Central Asian region.  “Therefore, we call on international community to provide assistance in establishing peace and stability in Afghanistan,” Rahmon stressed.

Afghan President Hamid Karzai, for his part, noted that the Afghan government was doing all in its power to strengthen Afghan-Tajik border.

Today, Rahmon and Karzai are expected to attend an official ceremony of opening of a new building of Tajik Embassy in Kabul.
