DUSHANBE, March 11, 2011, Asia-Plus  — A large amount of hashish has been seized by police in the northern Sughd province.

According to the Ministry of Interior (MoI), 29 kilograms of hashish were intercepted in the Isfisor jamoat, Bobojonghafurov district on March 10.  Police officers found hashish when searching Mercedes belonging to local resident, F.G.  He said he had purchased hashish from C.B. for further selling, the source at a MoI said.

On the same day, Dushanbe resident, N.A., was detained on suspicion of drug peddling.  More than two kilograms of heroin were confiscated from him.

Criminal proceedings have been instituted against the detained drug peddlers and an investigation is under way.

We will recall that it is not the first large amount of hashish seized in the country this week.  33 kilograms of hashish were seized in Tursunzoda district on March 8.

Over the first two months of this year alone, Tajik law enforcement agencies have seized 1,023 kilograms of drugs, which is 63.1 percent more than in the same period last year, the source said.
