DUSHANBE, June 23, 2012, Asia-Plus — Five days long Advanced Level Training Course for Border Liaison Offices (BLOs) concluded in Tashkent, Uzbekistan on June 22.

Press release issued by United Nations Office on Drugs (UNODC) says the training course was conducted within the framework of United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime Regional Project XAC/K22 “Countering the trafficking of Afghan opiates via the northern route by enhancing the capacity of key border crossings points (BCPs) and through the establishment of Border Liaison Offices (BLOs)”.

With the purpose of enhancing capacity, this training course was conducted for officers of Law Enforcement Agencies (LEAs) of Tajikistan and Uzbekistan who already participated in the Basic Level Training Course in 2011.

A total of 10 law enforcement officers were trained in this training course by trainers of the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) of the United States Department of Justice.

The trainee officers were from the Customs, State Committee for National Security, Drug Control Agency and Ministry of Interior of Tajikistan and from Customs and Ministry of Interior of Uzbekistan.  The trainees went through training topics on integrated border management, advanced techniques on intelligence analysis, controlled delivery, presentation skills and professional ethics, human trafficking and inter-agency and international cooperation, and they stated that this course improved their skills and expressed their satisfaction with the training.

Within the last 6 months, a total of 6 different training courses were conducted by the Project XAC/K22 in Uzbekistan and Tajikistan.  A total of 137 participation from the Uzbek and Tajik Law Enforcement Agencies took place in different specialized courses including countering narcotics, risk assessment, profiling and border controls.
