DUSHANBE, July 12, 2012, Asia-Plus — “The Project for Rehabilitation of Secondary School No.8 in Nushor Jamoat, Tojikobod District” with the total amount of US$ 106,249 funded by the Government of Japan in the framework of Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) has been successfully implemented, Japan’s Embassy in Dushanbe reports.

On July 11, Mr. Hiroyuki Imahashi, Ambassador, Embassy of Japan in Dushanbe, Mr. Husein Aliyev, Chairperson of Tojikobod district, and Mr. Jaloluddin Amirov, Head of the Department for Boarding Schools within the Ministry of Education of Tajikistan, reportedly attended a handover ceremony at the secondary school No.8 in Nushor jamoat of Tojikobod district.

The foundation and walls of the existing school building during winter season sucks of humidity, which case danger for life of children and reason of different dieses for schoolchildren.  Due to lack of sitting place in school, students and teachers had to go school in evening time.  Over-full classrooms brought inappropriate education environment and more than 425 students were study in three shifts. Even library were used as classroom.

With the grant assistance provided by the Government of Japan, the executive body of Tojikobod district constructed a new school building with six classrooms.  Education equipment such as desks, chairs, blackboards and bookshelves was renewed by the budget of Tojikobod district.  The new educational environment will enable the students to study in two shifts. Improvement of school infrastructure will bottom up the overall academic condition for hopeful of students in Tojikobod district.

Grant Assistance for Grass-roots Human Security Projects (GGP) is provided to local governments, educational/medical institutions and International NGOs in developing countries.  GGP supports projects in the human security sectors at the grassroots level.  Since 1996, GGP has extended more than US$ 21.1 million for 282 projects in Tajikistan.
