DUSHANBE, March 13, 2013, Asia-Plus – Known Tajik painter Khushbakht Khushvakhtov died in Moscow on March 12, aged 86 after a short illness.  For the past two decades, Khushvakhtov had lived in Moscow.

Born in Rushan district of the Gorno-Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO) on December 9, 1926, Khushbakht Khushvakhtov received his early education in GBAO before graduating in 1960 from the V.I. Surikov Moscow State Academic Art Institute.  He taught at the Republican Art School in Dushanbe in 1960-1961.

Khushvakhtov’s landscapes and thematic pictures depicting the Pamir’s majestic scenery and its inhabitants are characterized by a restrained palette, vividness, and traditionalist artistic solutions. Examples are
