DUSHANBE, April 5, 2013, Asia-Plus — New approaches to inter-region cooperation between Tajikistan and Russia were among major topics of a conference that took place in Dushanbe on April 5.
Organized by Russia’s Development Foundation “Institute for Eurasian Studies,” the conference reportedly brought together representatives of federal and regional authorities of Tajikistan and Russia, business communities of the two countries as well as researchers, experts and representatives of public associations and media to discuss state and prospects of further expansion bilateral cooperation between Tajikistan and Russia against the background of the developing integration processes.
The conference participants, in particular, considered issues related to development of efficient mechanism for management of human resources, labor migration, development of sectors like hydropower and telecommunications, as well as cultural and humanitarian cooperation between the two countries.
Speaking at the conference, Tajik MP Suhrob Sharipov noted that establishment of cooperation between the regions promoted further expansion of bilateral relations between Tajikistan and the Russian Federation.
For his part, head of Russia’s Development Movement Yuri Krupnov, who is also chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Institute of Demography of Russia, noted that he was currently developing strategic investment projects for countries of Big Central Asia, including Tajikistan. “It is necessary to make long-term investments the foundation for cooperation,” Russian expert noted.
In all, some 150 people participated in the conference that resulted in adoption of a joint statement
Tomorrow, Russian delegation is expected to visit the Danghara Free Economic Zone (FEZ) in Khatlon province.
