DUSHANBE, April 11, 2013, Asia-Plus — An international seminar “The Impact of Glaciers Melting on National and Trans-boundary Water Systems in Central Asia” is taking place in Almaty, Kazakhstan on April 11-12, press release issued by the United Nations Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA) said.
The two day event is co-organized by the United Nations Regional Center for Preventive Diplomacy for Central Asia (UNRCCA), the Regional Office of UNESCO, the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea (EC IFAS), the World Bank with the support of the US Government.
The purpose of the seminar is to discuss issues related to the impact of glaciers melting on the environmental situation in Central Asia and water resources in the region, as well as to elaborate recommendations and review further practical steps in overcoming consequences of glaciers melting in Central Asia based on the latest advances in science and technology.
Representatives of relevant institutions of Central Asian countries and Afghanistan, the Executive Committee of the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea, senior officials from various UN entities and regional organizations as well as international experts are participating in the event.
