DUSHANBE, May 14, 2013, Asia-Plus – The Agency for State Financial Control and Combating Corruption has reportedly instituted criminal proceedings against Emom Ghoibov, former chief prosecutor of the city of Isfara, Sughd province.

“Criminal proceedings have been instituted against Ghoibov under the provisions of two articles of Tajikistan’s Penal Code: Article 319 – large-scale bribery and extortion; and Article 345 (3) – preventing administration of justice and conduct of the inquiry and the preliminary investigation,” an official source at the anticorruption agency told Asia-Plus in an interview.

According to him, Ghoibov is suspected of committing these crimes during 2000-2003 while he served as chief prosecutor of the city of Isfara.

“Thus, the former prosecutor is suspected of taking bribe from Tajik tycoon Nizomkhon Jourayev for conducting illegal actions for him,” the source added.

Emom Ghoibov was arrested on May 13.
