DUSHANBE, May 15, 2013, Asia-Plus — An international roundtable formally titled “The Role of Tajikistan in Eurasian Development” took place in Dushanbe on May 15.
Organized by the Center for Geopolitical Studies at Russian-Tajik Slavic University (RTSU) and the International Development Movement (Russia), the meeting brought together representatives from Tajik governmental bodies, Russian diplomatic mission in Tajikistan as well as Tajik, Russian and international experts to discuss issues related to the role and place of Tajikistan in Eurasian development through organization of new industrialization and a system of strategic investment projects in Tajikistan.
The album, Strategic Investment Projects for Tajikistan and Central Asia, was presented on the sidelines of the roundtable.
This album has been worked out by so-called “Group of Krupnov.”
Yuri Krupnov is the chairman of the Supervisory Board of the Institute for Demography, Migration and Regional Development (Russia) and the head of the International Development Movement.
Presenting the album, Yuri Krupnov said, “We have entered the first stage of development of strategic investment projects that could expand our partnership.” “This album contains just several of more than 100 projects. Practically all of them focus on Tajikistan with elements of linkage to other countries of Central Asia.”
According to him, in the coming five years the aggregate volume of investments for Tajikistan should amount to some 12 billion U.S. dollars. “These are the initial investments that should be provided by Russia for new industrialization of Tajikistan,” Krupnov said, noting that the proposed projects are just initial drafts.
“Designed for the periods from 7 to 12 years, these projects have autonomous and achievable goals and they may be implemented under the existing economic and political conditions,” Krupnov stressed.
The album presented at the meeting contains fourteen projects. Among them are projects for construction of a 160-kilometer rail link connecting Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Turkmenistan, enhancement of aluminum industry in Tajikistan, construction of the Dashtijum hydroelectric power plant (HPP), construction of the string transport system, construction of poultry factories in Central Asia, construction of vehicle and tractor assembly plants, as well as construction of strategic water supply system from Russia to Central Asia.
