DUSHANBE, July 4, 2013, Asia-Plus — Senior representatives of Pakistan’s largest cement producers have visited Tajikistan.

According to Tajikistan’s Chamber of Commerce and Industry (CCI), a Pakistani economic delegation, led by Mr. Mahmood Saeed, visited Dushanbe on July 3.  The delegation members reportedly included top managers of Pakistan’s largest cement producers.

Issues related to Pakistani cement deliveries to Tajikistan were among major topics of a meeting of representatives of Tajik and Pakistani business communities that took place at the CCI building in Dushanbe on July 3, the CCI press center reported.

The sides discussed priorities of cooperation between entrepreneurs of the two countries as well as the signing of a trilateral cooperation agreement between the Chambers of Commerce of Tajikistan, Pakistan and Afghanistan.

Deputy Tajik CCI chairperson, Ms. Larisa Kislyakova, offered Pakistani entrepreneurs to build terminals for storing cement in Tajikistan, open the Trading Center for Pakistani Goods in Dushanbe and consider the possibility of organizing the production of cement in Tajikistan’s free economic zones (FEZs), the CCI press center said.

The principal agreement on building a joint cement plant was reached during the first business forum of Tajik and Pakistani entrepreneurs in Karachi, Pakistan in March 2011.  The forum was attended by Tajik President Emomali Rahmon who was on a state visit to Pakistan.

In 2012, a two-way trade between Tajikistan and Pakistan amounted to 70 million USD, while over the first six months of this year trade between Tajikistan and Pakistan has amounted to 60 million USD.
