DUSHANBE, November 25, 2013, Asia-Plus — Flydubai, one of the national airlines of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), considers increasing the number of flights to Dushanbe from two to four times a week, Senior Vice President Commercial Operations for the Middle East, Europe and the CIS, Mr. Jeyhun Efendi, told Asia-Plus.

Flydubai commenced its flights from Dubai to Dushanbe in the beginning of May 2013 and currently operates flights two times a week.

“The current passenger numbers on that destination show an increase of over 30 percent compared to the figures at start of operations,” Jeyhun Efendi said.

“Despite the fact that Flydubai is already flying to Dushanbe, we are interested in expansion and connecting new cities in Tajikistan.  We have already tested a similar strategy in Kyrgyzstan, where we launched flights to Osh, along with the existing capital destination”, Jeyhun Efendi added.

Apart from the Arab airline, regular flights on the route Dushanbe – Dubai are operated by the private Tajik carrier Somon Air.

Flydubai was founded in 2008. From the launch of its operations in 2009, Flydubai has built up a network of over 65 destinations with 16 new routes, including Dushanbe, joining the network in 2013.  The airline’s fleet consists of 33 Boeings 737-800.

Within the next two years the company expects to receive the remaining aircraft from the order placed in 2008, and also company just announced its commitment to order another 100 Boeings 737 MAX and 11 Boeings 737-800sNG deliveries of which will commence in the second half of 2017 and continue until the end of 2023.
