DUSHANBE, November 26, 2013, Asia-Plus — Tajikistan’s lower chamber (Majlisi Namoyandagon) of parliament has ratified a loan agreement between Tajikistan and Saudi Arabia on constructing and equipping secondary schools in Tajikistan.

A regular sitting of the fifth session of the Majlisi Namoyandagon of the fourth convocation, presided over by its head, Shukurjon Zuhurov, was held on November 26.   

Speaking at the session, Deputy Finance Minister, Ruhullo Hakimov, noted that to-date six investment projects worth 94.4 million U.S. dollars have been implemented in the country’s education sector.  A totaled includes 42.1 million U.S. dollars of grants and 33.3 million U.S. dollars of long-term loans, the deputy minister noted.

“The loan agreement between Tajikistan and the Saudi Government Fund for total amount of 25.7 million U.S. dollars is being implemented in three stages,” said Hakimov.  “Eight schools have been constructed and equipped within the first two stages that have been implemented in Khatlon province and districts subordinate to the center.”

According to him, the third stage of the project provides for construction of 15 modern schools that will accommodate 18,400 pupils and more than 2,000 teachers will work with these schools.

A $25.7 million loan agreement to finance a government project focused on constructing and equipping secondary schools in Tajikistan was signed by the Ministry of Finance of Tajikistan and the Saudi Development Fund.  The project aims to expand the Tajikistan public education system in order to meet its growing demand.  This project is part of the Tajikistan government’s initiative for developing its
