DUSHANBE, November 26, 2014, Asia-Plus — A Tajik parliamentary delegation led by Mahmadsaid Ubaidulloyev, the head of the upper house (Majlisi Milli) of the parliament, is in Saint Petersburg to attend events of the parliament assemblies of the CIS, the Eurasian Economic Community (EAEC) and the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) that are taking place there from November 26 to November 29.

Shavkat Saidov, an aide to the Majlisi Milli speaker, says the delegation members include of the Majlisi Namoyandagon (Tajikistan’s lower chamber of parliament) deputy speaker Nazira Ghafforova, the Majlisi Namoyandagon deputies Mahmadali Vatanov, Amirqul Azimov, Khairinisso Yusufi, Safarali Rajabov, Ubaidullo Davlatov, Amrokhon Safarov, Ismoil Talbakov and Barakatullo Atokhoja as well as the Majlisi Milli members Qahhor Mahkamov (ex-President of Tajikistan) and Abdughaffor Rahmonov (Mayor of Kulob).

The Eurasian Economic Community (EAEC) originated from the CIS Customs Union of Belarus, Kazakhstan and Russia on March 29, 1996.  The Treaty on the establishment of the EAEC was signed on October 10, 2000, in Kazakhstan”s capital Astana by Presidents Alexander Lukashenko of Belarus, Nurusultan Nazarbayev  of Kazakhstan, Askar Akayev of Kyrgyzstan, Vladimir Putin of Russia, and Emomali Rahmon of Tajikistan.  On October 7, 2005 it was decided between the member states that Uzbekistan would join.  Freedom of movement without visa requirements has been implemented among the members.  A Common Economic Space for the community was launched on January 1, 2010.

On October 10, 2014 an agreement on the termination of the EAEC was signed in Minsk after a session of the EAEC Interstate Council.  The Eurasian Economic Community will cease to exist on 1 January 2015 in connection with the launch of the Eurasian Economic Union.
