DUSHANBE, March 2, 2015, Asia-Plus – Communist Party (CPT) leader Shodi Shabdolov has decried the 2015 Tajik parliamentary elections “a political farce.”

According to him, the party representatives met with 400,000 voters during the pre-election campaign  and “they met the party representatives with applause.”

However, the CPT has failed to clear the 5-percent threshold, garnering just 2.3 percent of the vote.

“I had information that only 3 percent of the vote will be given to our party, but the central electoral commission head Shermuhamamd Shohiyon assured us that it’s just a rumor and we will get our mandate in the parliament,” said CPT leader.  “Thereby he just made us meet with voters and they went to cast a ballot.  I do not know who gives such advices to the president but they will have negative results.”

Shodi Shabdolov called the elections “a political farce.”

CPT leader, however, added that his party would not appeal against the election results “because peace and stability in the country are more important.”

“We will not company to anybody because all courts and prosecutor’s offices in the country are subordinate to the president,”  Shabdolov noted.

It is to be noted that for the first time since Tajikistan gained independence in the 1991 Soviet collapse, the Communist Party of Tajikistan has failed to pass the 5 percent threshold needed to win parliamentary seats.
