DUSHANBE, July 14, 2015, Asia-Plus – Tajik President Emomali Rahmon and visiting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Damodardas Modi yesterday attended a joint event of Tajikistan and India on agriculture in Dushanbe.
According to the Tajik president’s official websites, the event participants included representatives of government bodies, experts from think tanks, as well as representatives of private companies and entrepreneurs.
Addressing the forum, Emomali Rahmon noted that there is considerable room for expansion of economic ties between the two countries.
“In this connection, co-chairmen of the Tajik-Indian commission for trade and economic cooperation were ordered to work out the strategy of development of trade and investment relations at the next meeting of the commission that will take place in Dushanbe this year”
Tajik president reportedly stressed that Tajikistan has a wide range of opportunities to establish mutually beneficial cooperation with India.
He noted that innovative technologies and investments are needed for enhancement of Tajikistan’s agrarian sector, including development of vegetable growing and gardening, viticulture, fruit exports and launch of joint ventures for processing farm produce.

(ANI) reports that speaking at the event, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that it should be natural for India and Tajikistan to collaborate in the fields of agriculture, livestock and dairy.
“This is a very special event. It is one of the most important that I have attended in my journey through five Central Asian nations. Wherever I have been, there is usually an event of this nature for trade, manufacturing or finance. This is the 1st time we have a joint event on agriculture, especially on a scale as large as this,” he said.
Prime Minister Modi said that as in the world of business, international partnerships can also be catalysts for the development of agriculture.
The Indian Prime Minister further said that India and Tajikistan are strategic partners and it is one of the closest and most important relationships in the region.
“Ours is a shared enterprise of promoting development and prosperity in our two countries. We will deepen our cooperation in agriculture and transform our relationship in every field of human endeavor,” he added.
