DUSHANBE, July 28, 2015, Asia-Plus — The number of Tajik migrant workers who die in the Russia Federation is rising, according to the Ministry of Interior (MoI).
An official source at a MoI says the bodies of 433 Tajik citizens have been returned to Tajikistan from Russia over the first half of this year, 11 cases more than in the same period last year (422 coffins bearing Tajik citizens reportedly returned to Tajikistan from Russia in January-June last year).
“The listed causes of death were murder (19), disease (232), suicide (11) and so forth,” the source said.
According to data from the Ministry of Labor, Migration and Employment of the Population (MLMEP), 638,934 Tajik nationals have traveled to the Russia Federation over the first six months of this year, and 546,076 of them have been registered with the Russian migration service agency.
The Federal Migration Service of the Russian Federation (FMS) says 292,800 Tajik nationals have received and 4,031 Tajik nationals have got permits for labor activity in the Russia Federation. In all, more than 70,000 Tajik national now have permits for labor activity in Russia.
