DUSHANBE, September 25, 2015, Asia-Plus – The Government of Germany will provide an €8 million grant to Tajikistan for rural housing development, according to the Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MoEDT).

An official source at a MoEDT says the grant is provided to support implementation of the second phase of the Housing Project.

An agreement was reportedly signed in Dushanbe on September 23.  The document was inked by Mr. Nematullo Hikmatullozoda, Tajik Minister of Economic and Trade and Ms. Eva Witt, Director for Eastern Europe, Caucasus and Central Asia at KfW Development Bank

“The program aims at improving rural population’s access to banking services such as loans for housing improvement in rural areas,” the source said.

Besides, Mr. Hikmatullozoda and Ms. Witt signed an addition contract to the financial agreement on the TB prevention program – phase 4 (€213,400) on the same day.

According to the MoEDT, the Government of Germany has provided €19.1 million to Tajikistan in the framework of the TB prevention program, which provides for modernization of the republican and regional tuberculosis hospitals and liquidation of some district tuberculosis hospitals.
