KHUJAND, October 5, 2015, Asia-Plus — A group of members of the Sughd Martial Arts Federation have reportedly made an ascent on Muzbek peak on the occasion of birthdays of Tajik and Russian presidents.

The Sughd Martial Arts Federation head Gennady Nabiyev says the ascent was made on October 4 and the main objective of the ascent was in promoting further strengthening of friendship between the Tajik and Russian peoples.

We will recall that Tajik President Emomali Rahmon was born on October 5, 1952 and Russian President Vladimir Putin was born on October 7, 1952.

The Mogoltau Massif is a 268 km2 tract of land in Tajikistan’s Sughd Province.  The Mogoltau Massif is an isolated massif some 40 kilometers long and 15–25 kilometers wide, with an area of 350 km2, reaching an altitude of about 1600 meters above sea level. The central high point is Muzbek peak with a height of 1624 meters.  The massif is incised by mainly dry riverbeds formed by ephemeral streams which flow during the spring rains.  The area contains several small settlements and is surrounded, by cultivated land.
