DUSHANBE, June 9, 2016, Asia-Plus — On June 2 and 5, Charge d’Affairs of Japan to Tajikistan, Mr. Takashi Kamada, attended handover ceremonies of two projects completed in the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO).
According to Japan’s Embassy in Dushanbe, the ceremonies were held to commemorate the successful completion of the projects in healthcare sector in Murgab District and agrarian sector in Khorog City. The projects were implemented by the Government of Japan under the scheme of Grant Assistance for Grassroots Human Security Projects (GGP) with the total amount of US$ 201,003.
The handover ceremony for “The Project for Renovation of the Main Building and Construction of an Additional Building for the Central Clinic in Murgab District” was held on June 2, in Murgab district with the presence of Mr. Mirzabay Joshbayev, Chairman of Murgab District, along with doctors, nurses and local community members. With the implementation of the project, the clinic is now able to provide improved healthcare services to more than 14,000 people from the region annually. The local government also equipped the building with upgraded medical equipment.
Following the Murgab ceremony, the handover ceremony of “The Project for Improvement of Irrigation Canal in Khorog City” took place in Khorog on June 5. With the implementation of the project, farmers now have access to sufficient water for irrigation, and consequently, can increase their agricultural productivity. GBAO Governor Shodikhon Jamshed, also expressed his deep gratitude for the generous support from the people of Japan to the remotely located mountainous regions of GBAO.
During the ceremonies, Mr. Kamada expressed that the projects will help upgrading the living condition of the people of the region. He also mentioned that these GGP projects also represent the amicable relationship between the peoples of Tajikistan and Japan.
