CSTO emergency management officials gather in Yerevan to discuss cooperation

The 9th session of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) Coordinating Council for Emergency Situations took place in Armenian capital Yerevan on September 29.

Emergency management officials from Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan as well as representatives of the UN Humanitarian Affairs Coordinating Office in Moscow, Red Cross Office, and Almaty-based Emergency and Disaster Risk Reduction Center participated in the meeting.

 They discussed issues related to expansion of cooperation with international organizations with a view to using their potential in rendering assistance to victims of emergency situations, an official source at the Committee for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense of Tajikistan (CES), told Asia-Plus in an interview.  

The meeting participants also discussed the draft decision of the CSTO Collective Security Council on emergency response.

The session’s agenda also included issues related to implementing the action plan of CSTO emergency response system.

The meeting participants also discussed the progress made in the implementation of the agreement on training specialists for the law-enforcement, fire-fighting, and rescue services of the CSTO member states, and the formation of the Russian-Armenian Humanitarian Response Center in Armenia.
