A person suspected of murder during the recent mass brawl in Khorog, the capital of the Gorno Badakhshan Autonomous Region (GBAO), has been detained.

Khorog resident Orzou Boynazarov, who is suspected of killing a 33-year-old Firouz Odinashoyev during a mass brawl in the city, has been detained, Umarjon Emomali, a spokesman for the Interior Ministry, told Asia-Plus Friday afternoon.

The GBAO regional prosecutor’s office is investigating the incident.

As it had been reported earlier, a mass brawl between young men from two neighborhoods of Khorog took place on October 10 and Firouz Odinashoyev was shot dead during the brawl.

According to Tajik law enforcement authorities, Firouz Odinashoyev was an occasional victim of that incident.  Odinashoyev was reportedly killed by a stray bullet while staying in the yard of his house.

Ziyodullo Azizullozoda, chief od the Interior Ministry’s office in Gorno Badakhshan, says several other people were wounded in the October 10 shooting in Khorog but they did not apply to hospital for medical aid.

GBAO governor Shodikhon Jamshed ordered to intensify educational work among youth.

Senior representatives of the country’s power-wielding structures have repeatedly raised the issue of a large amount of weapons possessed by residents of the region.  Over the five years alone, more than 1,200 firearms have reportedly been collected from residents of Gorno Badakhshan.
